In the Tarot deck, the Moon is card no. 18 in the Major Arcana, associated with the zodiac signs of Pisces and Cancer, and symbolises what is hidden. The archetype exists within all of us and can be more or less visible in our lives at different times.
The card shows a dog and a coyote howling at a starry moon. They sit by the same water that we see in The Star and The Alchemist. They communicate with the moon. The dog looks at the moon but the coyote looks at the dog. The dog is domesticated and seeks the Moon as if to find its wild genunia instincts. The coyote is already wild and has the instincts in place within her. They are both aspects of you. Your inner tame dog that seeks the unknown and inner wild coyote that already knows the way, already has the answers, already feels the sensations and doesn’t need to ask the Moon.
A red crayfish / lobster crawls out of the water. The lobster is a phallic/sexual symbol of our uncontrollable urges, our emotional needs and desires. Also that none of the canines see the slowly approaching lobster coming with its claws in full swing. All three of them are bewitched by the moon. The moon has an attraction to everything and everyone, the dog, the coyote, the lobster and the water (ebb and flow).
Completely depending on which tarot cards are drawn around the Moon, the card communicates differently.
The moon carries a gift. In the card before, The Star, we got in touch with the pure light the star light. The moonlight, on the other hand, represents the ‘false light’ that casts the shadows of illusion, has powers that control the entire rhythm of our planet. We must learn about the true/false light to become fully integrated as individuals. The card comes to ask you to examine what motives you really have in a situation? The full moon will expose everything that was hidden in the light of the night.
This tarot card comes up in my readings where there is something false, denied, hidden motives, a split (one says one thing but does another).
All cards have their gifts and they are here to help us become aware. We must become whole and free from inner conflicts. Not until we have accepted ourselves 100% have we mastered the lessons of life.
