Tarot: five of cups

Cups cards in the tarot deck are symbolized by the element Water and rule the zodiac signs Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. In the classic Rider Waite Smith tarot deck, this tarot card shows a person in deep sorrow. Five of Cups is the saddest card in the entire Tarot deck. The person is dressed in black, hangs his head and stares fixedly at three overturned goblets of wine on the ground. Behind the person stand two goblets still upright. You have stared blindly at a loss and cannot see or appreciate what you actually have. One of the overturned cups has a green content and sometimes it's lucky that we can't consume everything we want - some consumption is poison to us. Sometimes life takes away from us that which had hurt us. The person has closed their heart and has a Heart Wall. It is as if the boredom in the card before, Four of Cups has gone even deeper and we all need to be aware that our thoughts can make us depressed. The person in the card also has a blocked Sacral Chakra (healthy emotions).

Cups cards in the tarot deck are symbolized by the element Water and rule the zodiac signs Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. In classic Rider Waite Smith tarot decks, this card shows a sad person sitting under a tree and sulking. There are three cups at his feet and a fourth cup is held out by a hand out of a cloud. He doesn't seem very interested in any of the cups. Maybe there was a little too much partying from the card before, three of cups? Four of Cups is about being in a blassé mood. You are full. You are on your way down into a deep sadness, disappointment, depression to work up a hunger again. Water can drown in excessive amounts and the man in four in a beaker begins to drown. In the next card, Five of Cups, it is more evident.

Tarot: nine of wands

In classic Rider Waite Smith tarot decks, this tarot card symbolises a stubborn defensive energy. The Nine of Wands shows a wounded man with a bandage on his head (the battle from the Seven of Wands) who is determined to defend his position now. There is something proud about him and something bordering on mad extremism. He is traumatised. What is he defending? He is all alone, he has received his wands but no one is there. Is it Don Quixote fighting windmills? His eyes look deeply disbelieving and he grips the staff tightly with both hands. I think of Gollum with his obsession with his ring. But when the Ego is wounded, as for this man, one becomes easily distrustful. He feels alone, vulnerable and his gain has come at a cost. What the man defends is his honor, his dignity, his pride.
