In classic Rider Waite Smith tarot decks, Five of Swords shows a scene where a man holds three swords with a triumphant expression on his face. Two other men have left him, abandoning their swords on the ground. The man at the far end buries his face in his hands. The sky is troubled. Five of Swords is a card for a fight where there are no winners. The man who gets all five swords is ostracized by the other two. The card asks you would you rather have five swords alone, or be without swords but together?’ The man with the swords is a bully / narcissistic character with an overactive Solar Plexus Chakra (excessive personal power). There is such an interesting dynamic of social squareness, empathy, personal maturity, integrity and choice; the one who can be vulnerable will make the most social contacts. He who is invincible repels others.
Depending entirely on which tarot cards are drawn around the Five of Swords, the card communicates differently.
This tarot card comes up in my readings when a conflict has gone too far. Compared to five in wands where a more pure fight happens, the fight here has become ugly and undignified. It may very well happen that you or someone won this conflict in a way that they will regret afterwards.
